After this, as a class we decided to create an event on Facebook where we could be able to raise awareness of the screening taking place.

This allowed for us to increase the knowledge of the event and create a larger turn out.

RESULTS

In terms of these results, I think that they could have been expected due to the fact that politics isn't a subject that we can expect to see Young People interested in. However, it is clear that my documentary has had some impact, as many of my target audience agreed that they enjoyed it and would recommend it to a friend. We could alsop consider uses and gratifications theory as it is clear that my documentary complies with educate, as my product allows for my audience to aquire information, knowledge and understanding. I have also placed my final product on Youtube... meaning that I can gain a wider audience from it.

EVALUATION: In what ways did you use media technologies in the constuction, research and planning and evaluation stages?

Throughout the development of my project, I used many media technologies. To create the Ancillary tasks I used Photoshop CS5. I have had previous experience with this programme as I used it last year, however this time my skills will appear more advanced as I used tools that I didn’t use last year. One example of this was the use of ‘refine edge’. After using the magic wand tool to select everything that I needed for my image, I then refined the edge so I could select the hair of my model (which was curly). This is one way in which my skills have progressed as I hadn’t come across this before. To take these images I used a stills camera and a tripod.

I also used many media technologies during my research and planning stages. To start, I set up my own blog (www.blogspot.com). This allowed for me to become the prosumer, displaying my progress in a multimedia way. The first programme I used was YouTube. This allowed for me to research the style models that I needed for the typical documentary. I later used some of the techniques that I gathered in my own project.

I mainly used two programmes to display my work during this stage. The first of which was slide share. This way I was able to post my presentations online and later onto my blog, which I had created on Microsoft PowerPoint. Another programme that I used which is similar to this is Prezi. I used this programme to present the information which I wanted to convey in a more interactive way for the audience to read.

During the construction, I used a HD film camera. I used this camera to gain all the footage that I needed for my final project. I found it quite simple to use these cameras, and I sued a tripod throughout to make sure that I gained a stable shot. When it came to editing these clips together I used the iMovie on an Apple Mac computer. Through this programme I was able to use transitions such as fade to allow for the clips to flow better. I also used text on my project, as I was able to create headings when a new person appeared to talk. This allowed for the audience to keep up with what was going on throughout. The main issue that I had with this programme was the sound. There was a lot of background noise in some of my shots which I struggled to eliminate completely. Therefore, if I had the opportunity to complete this task again I would fix this error through the filming process.

Throughout the editing process, I also used a voice recorder. This allowed for me to drop my voice overs on top of the footage that I had already gained, thus adding additional information in which the audience might be interested to hear.

Through the evaluation, as well as using the same methods I used in the research and planning, such as Prezi, I also used the HD Camera to talk into. This was important as it meant that my audience wouldn’t just be reading through my blog and that it is a lot more interactive.

Editing update

So far I have managed to gather all my footage and edit it together. However, I still need to record my voice overs. Hopefully I will have these done by tomorrow so that I will be able to finish the editing process.

Ancillary task 2

In the past week, I have made some basic changes to this ancillary task. I still need to add a screen shot image to it, but I believe that it looks a lot more like an authentic project then it did previously.

Ancillary update

Over the past couple of weeks I have been working on my ancillary tasks.

For my first ancillary task the following changes need to be made:
• Need to get a screen shot for the background
Hopefully this will improve this ancillary task and it will look more professional after this.

For my second ancillary task, the following changes need to be made:

• The amount of columns need to be the same on each page
• There is too much space at the side of the page
• Use a different model for the one image

Images

These are the images that I took, my model is being me in these shots, showing her in profile shots and also filming parts of the documentary itself.

Images

Today I plan to take my images/screen shots that I need to gather for my ancillary tasks. I will be taking images of a classmate pretending to be me so that I can put them in my double page spread about my documentary.

Copy

Over half term, I created the copy for my second ancillary task. It mainly focus's on my documentary, although it does focus on the director also. It is also about the same length of my style model, meaning that it could be found in a real magazine.

Audience research

Tagret Audience

This is Beth. Beth is a 18 years old and is currently studying media studies, Art and Psycology in 6th form. She recently applied to engage in a photograpthy course at university and her other interests include reading and fairy tales.
Beth is only an example of my target audience, and although my primary audience is young people (11-24), I am still hopeful that the final product will reach wider audiences, which all kinds of interests.

filming proposal for the week starting 28/1/13

Last week, due to the weather and exams, I didn't gain any footage.
This week I plan to:
Monday: Nothing
Tuesday: Establishing shots: I will be gaining shots of the outside of the school, the civic centre and Gladstone Terrace
Rest of the week: Nothing

I am hoping that over the course of the next week I will be able to get at least one of the main interviews completed.

Tuesday 15 January 2013

Today

Today, I began to work on analysing style models for my ancillary tasks. This is important as it will give me a better understanding of what to do within my own. I will post my analysis' later today.

Filming this week

Monday and Tuesday: Nothing
Wednesday: ‘Lack of political knowledge’ interview. I will be filming this in school at 1:45 (4th period). I will have Jordan sitting talking to the camera, when asking him general knowledge questions that he should know the answers to. I will also be gaining some opinions from him about the topic.
Thursday to Sunday: Nothing

This way I will be able to manage my time effectivly between this project and work for other subjects.

I have also made th change that I will be interviewing one person rather then a class for the other side of the argument. This is because I felt that this is a more manageable way of conveying the other point of view to the audience.

channel research :)

Today. there are many channels which view documentaries to the general public. One obvious example would be the cutting edge series on channel 4:

This would be a good place to view my documentary as it is somewhere in which an audience would expect to see it.

Plan for the next few weeks

Tuesday 8 January 2013

Over Christmas

Over Christmas I have collected a number of clips which I could use for the introduction of my final product. These clips include how young people are portrayed in the media in both possitive and negative ways.
I have also created a first draft of a script for this section.

First draft

Every year, we see thousands of stories in the news that relate to young people in one way or another. We see them achieve their high grades in exams and helping the community, and many seem to come into the spotlight through the various talents that they may possess. But the majority of them show us in a more negative light. The London riots, for example, is just one of the many examples where we can see them portraying the stereotype that many see us as today, but why see us all in the same way? Many young people are over shadowed by this bad light and have started to become more involved in the process of making a difference. And with an increasing interest of the subject being shown in Parliament itself, we must ask ourselves the question... Are young people interested in politics?

This is a section that I hope to last about 30 seconds.
